As a new PA, what’s more important to you: on-the-job training or an external PA training course?
Both are equally important, obviously. But it’s a sad fact of life that on-the-job training can be of variable quality. Of course, there are many aspects of your new role (office systems or reporting procedures) that can only be learned by shadowing other PAs or by a handover from the PA vacating the role.
However, when it comes to learning PA skills from others, rather than formal PA training courses, there is a danger that you may pick up their bad habits. There may be other, quicker, more efficient ways, better suited to you and how you prefer to work.
PA training workshops will introduce you to different ways of working, fresh ideas for managing yourself and your boss and for getting organised in your new role.
Armed with this information, you can figure out your own unique way of working and acquire the self-confidence to put your own stamp on your PA role.
