When is the best time to discuss your PA training with your boss?  When you’re both busy with deadlines, you may feel that there is never a good time. You may just decide to discuss it at your appraisal.

Of course, an appraisal is the best time to discuss your training needs but that could be months away. Waiting until your appraisal means that not only could you miss your ideal PA course, it may mean that you miss out on acquiring new skills – skills that you need now!

For instance, if your role involves taking minutes (and you feel you could do with some help) don’t struggle on until your next appraisal. Take action now.

First, however, you need to identify the course that best fits your needs. PA courses vary in terms of course content and duration, so it’s important to do your research, look at the content and think how it applies to you and your role.

When you have all the facts at your fingertips, you’re ready to make the case to your boss.   Keep it short and sweet and outline the benefits to both of you (the time you’ll save, the increased efficiency).

Once you’ve attended your chosen training, you’ll be glad you didn’t wait for appraisal time to roll round.
