Becoming a Supervisor is a challenge. Whether you have applied for, have been promoted to, or have inherited the role, it can be an overwhelming prospect. As well as sound PA experience and a wide range of ‘soft skills’ (time management and listening skills, to name but two), you need a thorough knowledge of your organisation and the industry you work in.
As a Supervisor, you must consider the needs not only of your own team but also those of each department, planning well ahead to arrange cover for holidays or over the busiest times of the year. Yet, when things are hectic and everyone’s busy, it’s all too easy to become focussed on just getting the day-to-day work completed, rather than managing and motivating your team. Taking a PA training course in how to be an effective supervisor will help you take a step back and see the bigger picture.
For instance, however well you deal with your own workload, as a Supervisor you will be managing this for the entire team and delegating work on a regular basis. And, as Supervisor, you will remain ultimately responsible for the delegated task, ensuring it is carried out correctly.
Similarly, if your company is going through a major upheaval (merger, redundancies or reorganisation), your team will look to you to manage this change and keep things running smoothly.
Supervisors must draw on a variety of people skills. Specialist PA training covering topics such as dealing with difficult situations, communication, delegating work and change management will give you the confidence to become stronger and more effective in the role.
If you are new to a supervisory role or are looking to develop as a supervisor, PA course will help you understand what is expected of you and show you how, as a PA, you are the ideally placed to motivate and get the best out of your team.
