Now that you’ve been on your PA training course, you feel that you’ve got your training firmly on track. So how do you keep it there?
PA training isn’t a one-course fix. One course in, say, IT skills, will certainly help you in your day-to-day work. But there’s more to PA training than just going on a couple of courses and thinking “been there, done that”.
PA training should be an on-going programme. IT skills, for example, can become out of date as new versions of the programs are launched with more sophisticated features and more time-saving tricks. It’s important to make sure your skills keep up with developments.
Some organisations and industries are keen on their PAs’ continuing professional development. You may be lucky enough to work for one of these firms in which case, take every opportunity to keep your training on track.
However, if you’re not as lucky, it’s up to you to emphasise how important on-going development is in helping you to do your job – that is, supporting your boss – to the best of your abilities.
